The GlobalRecalls Privacy Policy
This privacy policy applies to The GlobalRecalls mobile app. The app helps users scan product labels or barcodes and check for matching recall notices using the OECD GlobalRecalls service.
1. Data we access
- Camera access is used only when you choose to scan a label or barcode.
- Camera frames are processed on-device using Google ML Kit text recognition or barcode scanning.
- The app does not upload or store raw camera images as part of the scan flow.
2. How scan data is used
- Recognized text and barcode values are used to search the OECD GlobalRecalls service over HTTPS when you start a scan or search.
- Recall results returned by OECD may be cached locally on your device to improve later checks and offline fallback.
- Scan history, including recognized text, barcode values, match status, and matched recall IDs, is stored locally on your device.
3. Advertising and identifiers
- The app displays banner ads through Kakao AdFit.
- Advertising SDKs may process advertising identifiers and basic device or ad event information needed to serve and measure ads.
4. Notifications
- If notification permission is granted, the app may send recall alerts when previously scanned products are matched later.
5. Sharing
- User-initiated search text and barcode values are sent to OECD GlobalRecalls only to retrieve recall results.
- Ad-related device data may be processed by advertising providers for ad delivery and measurement.
- The app does not sell personal data.
6. Retention and security
- Network requests to OECD are made over HTTPS.
- Local scan history remains on your device until app data is cleared or the app is removed.
- The app does not require user account creation.
7. Web content
- The GlobalRecalls tab loads the OECD GlobalRecalls website inside a WebView.
- Content served by OECD is subject to OECD's own site practices and policies.
